The Remittance Advice Remark Code (REMARKS) is a
code set used by the health care industry to convey non-financial information critical
to understanding the adjudication of a health care claim for payment. It is an external
code set whose use is as mandated by the Administrative Simplification provisions
of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountably Act of 1996 (P.L.104-191, commonly
referred to as HIPAA).
The purpose of this site is to assist users of REMARKS.

The "Search" button allows the user to determine which Remark code to use by selecting
the appropriate situation descriptions from a series of dropdown boxes.

The "View All" button displays the complete list of current REMARKS Codes.

The "Policy & Procedures" button takes the reader to an explanation of the key
policies and procedures followed by the Remittance Advice REMARKS Codes Committee.

The "FAQ" button takes the viewer to an external page of questions and answers that
is hosted by the Washington Publishing Company

The "Request a Change" button takes the viewer to an external page that is hosted
by the Washington Publishing Company, where requests for changes to REMARKS Codes
may be entered.

The "On-Line Conference" button takes the viewer to an external page that is hosted
by the Washington Publishing Company, where individuals may register to participate
in REMARKS on-line activities.
